83,000-sf Automated Storage and Retrieval System

Warehouse & Distribution

Indianapolis, IN

Anchor Construction was chosen to perform design and construction management services for an Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS) pallet system at Fastenal’s Indianapolis distribution campus. Anchor designed and built an ASRS with an associated low bay sorting area, surrounding truck court, and a truck dock area and bridge. The building consists of pre-engineered steel, concrete precast walls, a rack-supported structure, and insulated metal panels on the body of the ASRS structure. At the time of construction, this was only the second ASRS to be built in Indiana.

A unique challenge faced on this project was integrating the ASRS low bay sorting area with the rest of Fastenal’s campus of buildings, specifically to the building adjacent, which houses an internal ASRS that Anchor also built. To connect these two high product volume locations, Anchor designed and constructed a 240 ft. bridge that houses a conveyor and rail system for moving product seamlessly between buildings without affecting the usability of the truck court.
