8,820-sf Waste by Rail Transfer Facility Addition

Solid Waste

Morristown, IN

This 8,820-sf Rail Transfer Facility was designed and constructed by Anchor Construction as an extension to the initial 7,650-sf phase of this project, which was completed one year earlier. This distinctive project is intended to receive solid waste from other cities and states. The building rises 55 feet, with a train rail passing through it. This phase includes a ramp and platform for an excavator to operate and unload railcars. Additionally, this building features a material handling crane positioned over the rail. An odor control system that disperses a mist is also installed over the overdoors and along the ceiling.

A notable aspect of the design involved coordination with a track design company from Pennsylvania, installation crews from Kansas, and a railroad tamping team from Canada. This facility is also home to the first fully electric material handling crane manufactured by Sennebogen in Germany to be installed in Indiana.
