A structure built by Anchor Construction has received recognition for its high-quality construction and has been named a 2024 Varco Pruden Hall of Fame winner. The annual Hall of Fame Awards, organized by Varco Pruden (VP), showcase and celebrate top architectural projects constructed by independent authorized VP builders whose work reflects innovation and excellence through the integration of VP building systems, products, architectural appearance, end use, and design.
Anchor was named a winner in the Agriculture category for the Mishler Packing Company Building Addition design-build project in Sturgis, Michigan. This 11,000 SF state-of-the-art meat processing facility is certified by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and produces high-end Japanese wagyu beef and other meat products for consumers nationwide.
Completed in 2023, this build features several unique design elements to suit our client’s needs. It includes freezer and cooler boxes throughout the facility, a custom processing room, offices, bathrooms, locker rooms, washrooms, storage areas, and more. The facility is equipped with a full rail system that runs throughout the cooler boxes and process room, enabling the transportation of beef halves through the facility.
During the design process, careful consideration was given to local and state permit requirements, as well as USDA standards for the client’s operations. This meant that particular attention was given to the pen area, focusing on individual animal welfare and employee safety. Wash-down-rated walls, electrical, and metals are positioned in areas of heavy water usage, and a specialized boiler system runs hot water throughout the facility for cleaning purposes.
